Another night of wonder (mystery intact)

Another night with the mind-bendingly brilliant Stuart Lightbody, this time with the promise of mysteries being revealed, but we are as mystified as ever (and happily so).

The Man with The Golden Hands, however, knows a lot more than he did before.

He knows about your hidden tattoo: what it looks like, where it is ‘hidden’. He can draw it even (and don’t think that he won’t).

Your dreams are fair game, too. He will think nothing of describing them to everyone in the lovely (packed) Kalk Bay Theatre.

On these magical nights, you can choose to sit up close, watch every detail like a hawk, and try to figure it all out. (Good luck with that.)

Or you can sit back and be amazed, enjoy the laughs and let the wonder wash over you like magical, iridescent star-dust.

June 2, NEWSFLASH: Stuart Lightbody’s new show Revealing Mysteries with Stuart Lightbody at the Kalk Bay Theatre! June 4 and 5 2024! Book tickets

An intimate night with our favourite trickster, April 17 2024:

Our date with the Man With The Golden Hands was as beguiling as it was magical. We have been fooled again and again, and are delighted to admit it. Stuart Lightbody just gets better every time we see him.

Mzansi’s favourite magician pulls the audience in with his magic and his charm. One guy is on stage rooted to the spot, his eyes fixed on Stuart’s pocket; another has eyes on the locked Perspex box all night; and then there is Steve (not his real name, obviously) whose cover as a deeply embedded secret service agent is eventually blown by Stuart.

But even those who are not on stage trying their darndest to see how that card or coin moves from hand to hand should not be too relaxed; Stuart might just come over to you in the audience and find it in your pocket.

As the beloved says, “It is all impossible!” and “It is clear that everyone else in the audience is in on the whole damn thing. They must have rehearsed for weeks.”

[Of course, dear.]

The magic and the illusion are impressive and confounding, and everything is delivered with extraordinary charm and grace. But it is the mind reading that … well … blows the mind.

Facebook seems to be in on it too. Innocent post about the show mysteriously deleted

It goes something like this … one person must think of a secret and write it down, scrunch up the paper and throw it to the audience, the person who catches it must read it and imagine drawing a picture of it. Stuart watches them intently, he ums and aahs, asks a few questions, … and then draws something. Stuart’s drawing is of Person A’s secret, as drawn in the mind of Person B.

“Absolutely impossible,” I agree with the beloved.

Some of us have been tricked, others exposed, all of us have been deceived and some have had their secrets revealed. Yet we are begging for more.

The one-night show at Kalk Bay Theatre was Stuart’s homecoming celebration after he won the overall Best Magic category at the enormously successful 2024 Adelaide Fringe festival. He was selected from 30 magic shows in the programme of more than 1,450 shows at the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest fringe festival, which ran from February 16 to March 17.

Sign up for our newsletter (there is a subscribe link on every page, go on, you can find it) or keep an eye on Stuart here and here to find out when his next show is. (Nothing else is ever revealed.)

Such a charming evening! I love how much respect he shows the old masters — such an entertaining, pure take on the classics. Highly recommended
