Auntie Merle, Uncle Marc, Auntie Pam, they were all there … Jokes aside … The renaming of the main theatre at the Baxter after Pam Golding is a fabulous legacy for the founder of the property empire … and an important shot in the arm for the theatre, no doubt.
Since the late 1970s Pam Golding and the Baxter have been names that have shaped lifestyles in the Mother City. Now they will be tied more closely, thanks to Pam Golding Properties’ five-year sponsorship of Cape Town’s iconic and much-loved theatre.
Adding a third beloved Capetonian to the mix, the launch of The Pam Golding Theatre was marked with a special performance of comedic royalty, Marc Lottering, with his latest show, ‘Uncle Marc’ (which is running until May 28).
Speaking at the launch, Dr Andrew Golding, CEO of the Pam Golding Property group, said: “As a patron of the arts, Pam was a lifelong fan of The Baxter Theatre which opened its doors in 1977, just a year after Pam founded Pam Golding Properties right here in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs.
“I cannot think of a more fitting way to honour her legacy and one of her great passions than to link her name to a theatre that she loved to attend and watched grow over so many decades.”
[Cue: standing ovation]
