Table Mountain Take a Hike day

As we are all trying to reclaim the mountain from the muggers, this email arrived from Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC):

It’s that time of the year again! #TakeAHike Day is happening at Table Mountain, and we want YOU there!

Hosted by Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) from 15-17 November, this event is all about reminding nature lovers to protect our fantastic New7Wonders of Nature site. And who says you can’t have fun while doing good?

As mountain custodians, we believe that Table Mountain needs our love. This is our fourth time doing this, and we can’t wait to see the awesome support from Capetonians, just like in the past!

Everyone who takes part will receive water and a bin bag at the start of Platteklip Gorge, while they will be issued a snack pack and a free ticket down when they hand in the trash. You are free to choose any of the other trails too. Hikers have until 5pm to hand in their trash.

When planning your hike, hikers should take factors such as changing weather into consideration. The weather can change very quickly, no matter which season of the year. One of the best things to do is to check the weather the day before and the morning of your hike to make sure it’s safe.

Here are some tips to ensure your safety:

Check-in and checkout; Tell somebody where you are going and how long you expect to be.

Stick to the route and the demarcated pathways.

Every party should have a leader. The larger the group the greater the need for one

Keep together and hike at the pace of the slowest. Do not split up and go in different directions.

Do not wear jewellery or take other non-vital valuables with you.

Watch the weather and time, and turn back in case of impending bad weather.

Know what to do in an emergency.

Save the emergency numbers on your phone.

Download any of the available outdoor safety apps, which could help locate you in the event of a mishap.

What’s more is that on Friday, 17 November, Good Hope FM’s breakfast show will be broadcasting live from the Lower Station.

Follow Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company on social media for regular operational updates.

Remember to tag us on Instagram and Facebook (@tablemountainca ) and use the hashtag #TakeAHikeWithTableMountain while hiking, to share your adventure

The last car ride for hikers will depart from the summit at 5pm.

See you on the summit!
