Kyle Shepherd in one-off show in Christ Church Constantia

UPDATE: This show was as wonderful as we had hoped it would be ...

A rare and special treat is available to Capetonians this Sunday (April 2, 2023) when the wonderful and renowned South African pianist and composer, Kyle Shepherd, performs in a once-off concerta at Christ Church Constantia.

Shepherd will be accompanied by Nic Williams on bass and Jonno Sweetman on drums to complete the Kyle Shepherd Trio for Sunday’s performance at 3pm.

Best known to Call Off The Search for his collaborations with the one and only William Kentridge, Shepherd has just completed a celebrated run of performances at the Theatre de Chatelet in Paris with Waiting for the Sibyl, a chamber opera created with Kentridge and co-composer Nhlanhla Mhlangu.

Often described as the pianist of his generation, Shepherd has released seven jazz albums and has an impressive number of film, television and theatre score credits to his name.

He won the Silwerskerm Best Score award for Fiela Se Kind and was responsible for the film scores for Vlugtig and Noem My Skollie (South Africa’s official entry to the 2017 Academy Awards).

He was recently nominated for a Fleur du Cap Best Sound Design, Original Music, Soundscape or Live Performance award for Lara Foot and and the Handspring Puppet Company’s award-winning Life & Times of Michael K, which was based on the Nobel prize-winning novel by J.M Coetzee.

The chance to see and hear this special talent in this heavenly setting really is a fabulous break for anyone quick enough to get their hands on a ticket for just R150 from Quicket.  Expect the angels to be in attendance.
